About CASA of the Southern Coalfields

Community-based advocacy focused on the best interests of children in Mingo and Logan Counties.

Our Purpose

CASA of the Southern Coalfields exists to recruit, screen, train, and support qualified community volunteers who provide consistent, child-focused advocacy in court-involved cases. Volunteers are expertly vetted and trained with National CASA GAL’s core model, which includes topics such as communication, trauma and identifying dangers. Volunteers generally give around eight hours of their month to dedicate to these children. They are appointed by the judge and stay with the child from appointment to permanency. Our advocates give the full picture about the child to the judge, and advocate for their best interests.

Our volunteers help ensure that the court has thorough, objective information about a child’s circumstances, needs, relationships, safety, and path toward a permanent home.

Advocates are recruited on a constant basis, and classes are ongoing.

Our Service Area

We serve Mingo and Logan Counties within West Virginia’s Eleventh Judicial Circuit.
